Rating change?
One of the things I really struggle with is rating a piece of art simply. I do realize that many people want a simple evaluation of what I think about a record. I find that I give an increasing amount of records somewhere between a 7.0 and a 8.5, creating real discernment problems for readers (not that anyone has complained).
Which brings me to my biggest question, “what constitutes an exceptionally low ranking?”
So instead of trying to answer the question, I’m going to try an incredibly simplistic rating system for a while, which I hope better conveys my thinking on these matters:
- A classic.
- Best new music.
- Listen to this.
- Ignore.
- Wow, this is just bad.
